Gmail New Mobile Experience for iPhone and Android Devices
According to Official Gmail blog, by takes advantage of the latest browser technology available on iPhone and Android devices, Gmail doing major revision and updated the user interface, made it faster to open messages, allowed for batch actions (like archiving multiple messages at once), and also added some basic offline support.
Archiving email via iPhone and Android is now quicker because it doesn't require a response from a remote server. Takes advantage of database storage on iPhone and Android's device-local mobile Gears database, Gmail cutting the remote server response process by cache mail on the device itself.
What kind of benefits offered by those new update? Well, many benefits. By reducing need of response from remote server, you can compose mail, open recently read messages, archiving, and starring mesages while offline. All changes you made then sent to Gmail severs in the background whenever a network connection is available. A response from Gmail server only needed when you're requesting an uncached message or list of messages.
This new version is a Gmail answer for common smartphones problem: relatively lack of a high speed internet connection - even with the advent of 3G networks and wifi.
Gmail also made extensive use of other browser function too, such as floaty bar that let Gmail user apply more actions animated via CSS transformations and controlled in part with touch events. So when you scroll the screen, it follows you. This new version of Gmail for mobile is available on iPhone OS 2.2.1 or higher, and any Android-powered devices, and currently available in English only. You see you have the updated user interface when you found that floaty bar.
